There is an old thread at bimmerforums.com with the same question.

Go and try a search there in the 2002 section.

Cheers,

If there's a good-looking hood scoop on an 02 out there, I havent seen it. Aside from aesthetics, there's not much function to having one. On American cars, hood scoops were attached when a modified motor was too tall for the hood or when the carmaker was trying to fool the buyer into thinking that it really forced air into the intake. Since that didn't actually produce better horsepower and the 02's motor is plenty short, there's no functional reason, in my opinion, to add one.

Just doesn't look right on a German car.

Anyway, with that being said, check out Charlie's creation:

the orange one at the top is mine :)

I actually got the idea because my air filter was rubbin on my hood. It is functional, but like everyone said, maybe like .05 BHP... lol. But it stopped the rubbin and adds a little muscle look.

Whatever floats you Bimma

I've got a similar setup on mine; 300zx turbo hoodscoop right above the carb. If you look really hard, you can see it on the bad camera phone pic

Here is a front shot of the old hood in all it's hack-job glory...

Both scoop and vent were totally functional (and pretty neccesary; she ran hot)
