haha, but the square lights are so much BRIGHTER! Paint issues to be fixed from the summer work, so I figured I would have the body work for the bumpers done at the same time since he'll have the paint going already... And I want to put it to bed soon.

I guess I need to get rid of the horns. Stu sent some nice ref pics.

Just rcv'd Eric Anton's bracket system to adapt the bumpers:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,viewtopic/p,984876/#984876

And also Pierre's Fog Lamp Brackets to move the fogs off the driving board & onto the car:

http://home.roadrunner.com/~pchamaa/2002_auxilliary_lamp_brackets.htm

Now I need to get a set of coupling plates so I can get rid of the rear bumper over-rides.

Scott, FYI Anton's front bumper kit comes pre-drilled for foglights.

Also, I bought the OEM rear bumper seam covers from Blunt, very reasonable price.

Front bumper is in place. I haven't dealt with the holes around the main brakets yet, but will save that for later. Anton provided plexi plates cut to slide over the tops of the brakets and apply to body, after paint matched of course.

I made the mistake of assembling the 3 pieces of the bumper, then attaching the main brackets. The bracket holes were not lined uo for the main bolts. So I loosed all the bolts on the bumper, then went back to the main bolts and was able to get them in that way. Then I tightened all the other bolts, and aligned the pass side chrome piece out little. I scuffed the paint on that side...

First, I sanded the inside of the chromed sections, primed them & then clear coated over the grey primer. I like the grey.

I didn't like the way the bumper angled, so thought I should shim it up...I shimmed it up too high for the main bolts to pass through the main bracket, so I pulled the shims out.

After getting all bolts in place, I cut a couple 2" square sections of coolant hose and stuck them under the main brackets to shim up ~ 1/4". Worked great.

Center section seemed dead-ctr but the pass side piece wanted to touch the body metal,so I loosened the bolts on that wing, pulled it out 1/4" and tightened down. Worked perfectly

Pierre's brackets bolted in place, wires already there and already cut the 1 vertical slat out of each grille to accomodate them. new Hella Dual tones also. They sound amazing, nice euro sound with some volume. (and for only $55.)

IMG_6868.jpg

Grilles slipped over fog lamp brackets & wires pulled through to meet th efog wires.

Fogs wired.

Love Pierre's brackets, very solid and perfectly fab'd.

I may use the plexi cover plates Eric Anton provided but not sure yet. I'm going to see what it would cost to have the body/resto guy close things up while he has paint flowing anyway.

Onto the rear bumper, next weekend hopefully.

Fab'd a bracket for the license plate today. $4 piece of steel at a Tractor Supply (thanks Steve K). Not perfect but works for me.

onto the rear......

Removed rear bumper

IMG_7062.jpg

Removed skirt

IMG_7067.jpg

Cleaning up chrome pieces. Seller wrapped duct tape around the rear piece which left hard sticky stuff/residue on chrome in 3 places. I used WD40 to soften and remove it - worked great.

IMG_7057.jpg

I'll be sanding/priming/painting the interiors next.

Skirt holes to fill. For some reason I thought the skirt clipped in, but there were very small screws that entered from the inside of the trunk.

Test fitting the rear bumper brackets tonight. All the talk about how Eric's brackets are crooked and they don't fit.... I learned on the front bumper - attach everythign loosely (VERY LOOSELY) then slide brackets into place. Once the brackets are in place and relaxed (because the nuts aren't tightened down on the bumper) the main bolts will feed through each bracket and tighten down. With the main brackets fastended there is still enough of a gap to reach a wrench up inside to the nuts & tighten the upper, rear and lower nuts.

First checked to make sure brackets fit before bolting to bumper.
