Some progress and some set backs

It was an absolutely gorgeous day today!  I was able to get some work done in my new location. I was able to remove the bonnet, boot, headlights, taillights and turn signals in preparation for sanding and primer.   While cleaning out the trunk I started to see more evidence that this car has been in a rear end collision.   Sigh.   Lots of welds and the seams don't seem to line up very well anywhere on the car.  Something that I didn't really see until I really state

Moving day...

The fumes from the work being done on the car were not making any of the townhomes resisidents to terribly pleased.  So today was moving day....the sanding and priming and sanding and body work will continue tomorrow.  Here are some pics in the sun light.  Not much to look at at the moment. Wish me luck.

Sanding, Cv boots and....the horror

Until you start sanding and removing old paint you don’t quite know a project cars history. Well...She is slowly revealing her dirty little secrets one panel at a time.     Overall not bad, a few dings and low points on the hood, fender needed some love and adjusting and the trunk/boot lid (not original) is a bit unaligned.  None of the glass is BMW except for the rear windshield (which has defrost elements - not an option in the fall of 1967).   Some welding is required...fi

1968 Bmw 1600 Trunk pics.

I started pulling the trim off the car in preparation for sanding and paint. I vacuumed and installed a new light bulb in the garage.  Not a very exciting afternoon....but sometimes that’s.. how it goes.      Oh yeah forgot last night I replaced a tie rod and noted that I may be missing the spring on my manual transmission lever that goes into the trans.     Also just realized I don’t have door stops...sigh.   here are few picks -mostly of the trunk.

Some engine bay pictures

So I took a few pictures of the engine bay and I am still in a learning phase with this car.   I've been able to figure out that it has a upgraded starter from a BMW 320 (cranks much better then my 71) and also seems to have a newer alternator.  The part numbers on the sticker have wore off so I'm not really sure what type of alternator it is I know it is a Bosch brand though.   The carburetor is a solex and my idle is currently pretty high...I have to figure out how to reduc

Pics from under the car and around the engine bay

Project Derby!   So today was a good day.   I jacked up the car for the first time crawled underneath and was very pleased with the fact that as advertised the car is structurally sound.   As for all the mechanics ...TBD    I took some pictures (below) so I can study some of the various pieces and do a "where's Waldo" on what's there and what's not there and what needs to be repaired and/or replaced.   i have have a slightly used suspension on my
