About this blog
I've wanted to do a 2002 project for ages, finally got the time and the budget to do it well. The objective is something reliable, comfortable and FUN. Most of the work is being done by Fraser Cars in Auckland NZ. Found an honest car that'd been in storage for a few years, got it to the workshop and up on the hoist, and phew its pretty solid with little rust that we can find. The initial plan was to strip and dip it but NZ's only full car body stripping plant has a 6 month waiting list and I'm impatient. So instead we're going to repair any rust we can see and just go ahead with the mechanical and body work. We discussed engine options including rebuilding and upgrading the M10, trying to find an S14 (almost impossible), but Dan talked me into (it wasn't hard) the Civic type R K20C1 thats now available as a crate engine. That's been ordered from Science of Speed in the US complete with control unit, gbox adapter and clutch, and it should be here in a month or so. We're going to connect it to a 6-speed S2000 gearbox thats already been sourced and rebuilt. The next decision is the rear end and the current likely candidate is from a WRX with custom sub-frame, axles and suspension. We'll have a bit more width to play with as we're going to do flared guards, probably Group 2-style.
I'll try and post updates and pics as we go along.
This site is great for info and ideas.
