Caravan from Dayton to Midwest 02Fest in South Bend...

Recommended Posts

Anyone from points east or south of Dayton going. I'm planning an early Saturday morning (12 June) departure from Dayton--specific gathering place TBD but it'll be at an I-75 exit just north of the I-75/I-70 interchange.

We'll proceed north to US 33, then west to Ft Wayne, where we pick up US 30 (the old Lincoln Highway). West on US 30 to US 31, then north to South Bend. Most of the drive is 4 lane (not limited access) and the Lincoln Highway is the east and midwest's version of Route 66.

If you're interested in joining up, drop an e-mail to mike7353ataoldotcom so I can send you specific start time/place.

cheers

mike

in a 20 mile stretch last Monday there were 7 Ohio Highway Patrol (AKA the Ohio Revenue Enhancement Patrol) cars with lasers--always at the bottom of a hill where the speed limit suddenly and inexplicably changes from 60 to 55, or 65 to 60. And they all had revenue pulled over, too. The traffic flow on this four lane modern highway was 5-10 cars per minute, so traffic safety wasn't an issue; $$$$ was.

It's no accident that the radar detector was invented in Ohio, and the two major manufacturers--Escort and Valentine--are located here. I don't drive down the street without my V1.

My rant for today.

Are non-participating spectators allowed?

I may want to come watch for a bit on Saturday AM in my 535i. If I can and do, I promise to ooh and aah. Do I need to ask Chris Burd? The '02 is not roadworthy yet/still.

Jim Jaeger (Escort/Cincinnati Microwave) is a customer of ours. We are finishing up an amazing amount of work at his home, the original Kroger estate. Its amazing to listen to the stories that he and his "fleet" manager tell about high level collectors of racing cars.. simply amazing. To go with his cars, he has quite a bit of cool memorabilia scattered throughout the lower level of the house. But his multi-level underground garage is where the action is.. There is a full library to go with the car collection..I haven't made it down there yet, but hopefully soon.

He is a speed demon through and through. Its so funny that a guy with a passion for racing is also a brilliant Radio Frequency engineer.. Hence the radar detector!!! He has the first production Escort detector in a case in the garage! He also has a full testing lab in his basement, so he is the eternal tinkerer/inventor. We just had to connect his Crestron system up to the dummy cop car at the entrance of his drive to he could control the lights on top of the car from the house!! LOL. He's a funny guy.

He kinda has a collection of cars..starring this little guy.

I get to miss yet another event. It's not my year for '02 events. I won't be able to go to Mid-Ohio either. Would anybody want to head to THE02GROUP's 02berfest in October w/me?? I have gone the past 2 yrs. Nice drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway cookout, etc.

I got pulled over on Sunday on the way back from V at the V... doing a whole 10 mph over the 60 mph limit. I couldn't believe how many state troopers there where on US 35 from WV to Dayton.

Ha--that's what a 5 speed will get ya! Just think, had I been able to go faster than 60MPH climbing those hills in VA/WVA, I could have been pulled over right along with you in OH. Sorry about your luck...tortoise and the hare!

Mike,

LEOs in Ohio don't even need radar anymore. What is happening in this country? We soon may not even have full Miranda protection anymore. Canada's looking good, n'est-ce pas?

David

If you wanna get technical, they've never needed radar, the court ruling just upheld it.
