The 02 never came up with short neck 4:10 isnt it ??

So what the deal with the ones around ? they are e30 gears assembled into 02 casings ?

i may be in need for such 4:10 but in perfect condition...no whining at all.

i have a e30 318is 4:10 gears set and dont even think about messing it up myself, i know how hard and finicky it is to do that properly, set clearances,...

thanks for any inputs.

I brought one back from the UK when I returned from my posting as an instructor pilot with the Army Air Corps , Middle Wallop, Hants. Took it out of a 75 1802 (I think, was a square tailight) that had failed MOT. Sold it a long time ago while stationed in Colorado springs.

ok so i guess it also answer the second part of my question, ie, if ever available might be hard to get a good one, so probably better worth the time to swap e30 gearset...

on US spec cars around 1 January 1969 and was one of many changes that differentiate "1st series" 69's (built from Aug 68 until 1 Jan '69) with "2nd series" '69s that were built after 1 Jan. Most changes dealt with safety and emissions changes that went into effect on that date, but the change from long neck to short neck diffs was one of 'em that didn't.

Thus all the 1600s that were imported to the US after 1 Jan '69--the bulk of 1969 production, plus all 70s and 71s had short neck diffs. That totalled about 16000 cars. So...short neck 4.11's aren't all that rare!

Cheers
