Alloy wheel refinishing

..... " 'find a reputable blasting shop

who is capable on not destroying your

wheels with too harsh an abrasive.

Also check them for trueness and

have any straightening done

before they are refinished"

that is the most important point !

find a wheel balancer - mount the bare rims on the spindle,

and just hand spin. If any wobbles are seen - stop there.

You could also mount a bare rim on the front of your car up

in the air and hand spin there to check for run-out.

great point cd. I got a set of wheels back refinsihed, and was told that one was bent. It was in the ctr so it's now a new lawn ornament. I felt worse for the man that spent the time on it, than me.

I will never use aircraft stripper again on wheels. It is toxic as hell, difficult to wash off, "melts" asphalt, destroys lawns. pollutes sewer systems and requires multiple applications to remove all paint off wheels. I subsequently sanded old paint off, but that is really slow, tedious work. Next time around - bead blasting will be the way to go. Good luck.

I've had good luck using ground glass for blasting alloys followed by Duplicolor's self-etching primer, silver wheel paint and then clear.

Bob,

Those Momo's look great. I have been looking for some background on those since you got them.

I have yet to find any. You???

They turned out very nice.

Thanks, Joel. I never did get any info from Momo on them. They were going to research them for me, but I never heard back. I did see one other set like this on a British '02 forum. I posted a picture of mine and was informed that they were fairly common in Europe at one time, but not many were exported to the States. I also learned that the center caps are nearly impossible to find. Mine have all 4 in great shape.

Here's a picture of a set on a British owner's touring - Rivierra, no less!

Paint stripper was way to nasty to work with. Had wheels bead blasted then used the Wurth refinishing kit.
