Mileage per year & your '02

Recommended Posts

I looked at some old paperwork today. When I bought mine, it had approx. 157K miles; now it has exactly 181,461 miles. That averages out to approx. 3400 mi./yr. since I purchased it. How does that compare with the rest of you? (edit: I believe my avg. will go up now that the engine is sorted out!)

I don't know what the "real" mileage is on my 74tii but baring any serious breakdowns I should get close to 15,000 miles this year. I've put about 30,000 on the card since purchasing it in 2007 but lost about 18 months of use during that time due to a head gasket issue.

It's my favorite car to drive so I drive it all that I can.

On the project short list:

Transmission swap (rebuild of spare pending)

Clutch and associated components at the same time

Patman in Tehachapi

I purchased my '75 with 87900 in 1990. I'm at 387,400 today. That's right at 300,000 miles in 20 years or 15,000 mile per year. The first engine lasted 164k. Current engine runs really strong at about 136k. It's been a rolling restoration and has never been out of service longer than 2 weeks ( not including winter hibernations).

I've put on 281,000 mi. in the last 28 yrs. I've been driving my ' 75, so that's about 10K a year average, though it used to be more per year than it is now. I find going to Europe, the Caribbean, or Hawaii is best done by air, and those are the places of any distance I go these days.

I put about 5k on my car a year. It currently has 65,680 miles, I got it with 59,800. Its a heck of a car to drive!!

'69 has 223k--all of which I put on--but useage has been very uneven. Only 3k or so since about 2004, 'cause I've been driving the 73 with its much more pleasant-on-the highway 5 speed. When new I put 10k miles on it the first six months we owned it, and by the time it was 3 years old it had 40k. Hasn't been a (summer--no road salt) daily driver (except 2003 and last year) since about 2000 when I redid the body and painted it.

73 turned over 225k on Tuesday--it's an April-November daily driver; I've been averaging about 5-6k per year since the early 90s. It was off the road most of 2004 with a blown head gasket while I gathered the parts for a rebuild and 5 speed conversion, and also last summer with carb problems.

My work commute is only about 18 mile/day round trip.

Bought my '75 in 1997 with 68k; now has 104k. So average is 2,700 miles per year, but I took the long way home, via California, from Tucson when I purchased the car. A more realistic mi/year, after discounting the drive home to Indiana, is 2k/year.

My '02 has driven 3 blocks in 9 years. It's killing me to admit it. It's the first step in a 12 step process to full (road) recovery. It is languishing behind 4 e30's and an e34. My wife had the "talk" with me recently. You know the one where she says "You know you are NEVER going to really drive that car so why don't you get rid of it?" Boy I'll show her...

Bought my Touring in '86 with 73k on it.

It now has 115k, but did sit idle in my old garage in the UK from '90 to 2000 when I shipped it over here.

Reached 100k in May '03, so in 7 yrs we've covered 15k, including a 3k roundtrip to Vegas, and another 3k roundtrip to V@V last year.

I feel like there is probably no 2002's out there with REAL mileage, how many cars do you see for sale where it is stated "Mileage is 82,000, clock has turned over at least once" or "odometer stopped working"

Mine stopped working......so its a mystery to me, probably around 200K, miles.
