Quick smog question (nt)

Myriad of things, It is tuned, car is warm when smogged, etc... tell us more. What year is the RSX? What's the smog tech say what he thinks on why it won't pass? One thing that will cause a car to flunk smog real quick is a bad O2 sensor.

Well, it has to be at least 6 years old, if he needs to smog it right? High levels of CO and NOx, sounds like the cat was cold or is dying. Cat's like to be nice and hot to do their work, tell him to take it out and let it fully warm up (20 min drive maybe?) and then flog it like you stole it, drive straight up to the smog tech, and have his test it again.

Why did it fail ignition timing? I guess that would play a large role as well.

This is why california leaves it to the SELLER of the vehicle to get a smog cert when they sell it.

hard to say what the original owner did to it. (performance software [not smog legal], race cat [or no cat], fake O2 sensor, etc)

If the car is reading that bad, one would think that it would have a check engine light on or at least "pending codes" logged on the ECU even if the light hasn't tripped.
