1973 BMW 2002 Convertible - $8K

I looked at this car about a year ago. It was on Ebay and sold for about $10.5. Interesting that is showing up again in Laguna Beach but perhaps by a subsequent owner.

My concern was the impact on the structural integrity of cutting off the roof. I would like to hear from others that know much more than I.

From the factory, the 1600 Full Cabriolets had gussets welded under the rear seat and the box that the top mechanism folds into was welded in the trunk above the rear shock towers. Even with this additional support, there is a significant amount of chassis flex in the full cabriolets. I added a front strut bar on mine which helped alot.

Because they actually have a working top mechanism, they probably have the receiving box welded in. I would check under the rear seat to see if any additional strutures were added. Chris at La Jolla Independent chopped the top off of one of his 2002's and ran it as a roadster (No top). He might have some valuable tips for improving the stability.

Thanks,
