I would never have thought the problem was ignition related.

What is different on the re-engineered one?

Rob removes the old spring post and installs a new one that is made from stronger material (so it doesn't wear from the spring wire).

My old ones are being sent back so he can "fix" them for re-selling to another tii owner. I think Al (bluedevils) also purchased one for his tii. There was another thread on this last year.

  • 1 month later...

I am happy to report that after a long drive this evening, the car seems to be rid of the missing issues I had last Fall. Replacing the "lifetime" Bosch plug wires that were 3 years old did the trick. My coil wire and # 2 plug wire were faulty, causing me headaches that I attributed to the fuel pump.

Many thanks to everyone here for the advice and mostly to Marshall Lytle for providing me his slightly used plug wires to try.

Idle during warmup was between 10-11 (smells too rich).

Putzing around with steady throttle (minimal load) was between 12-14.

Accelerating from stop lights with medium throttle action was about 14 (hard to watch gauge, speedo, tach and road all at the same time).

Downshift from 4th to 3rd while going about 40mph, WOT about 14 (I think?). Headlights behind me at dusk did not reveal any smoke (not sure though).

excellent! i am jealous you were out for a drive.

i still don't have a car with an engine in it! argh!

I was going to drop by your house but didn't want to stop in last minute. Will come over soon so you can drive it (need your opinion anyway).

Hmm. That may be a tad lean. 4000 on up under full throttle I think I would expect to see 12.5 to 13.0.

Ray

  • 2 weeks later...

Drove the tii to work today after filling up with Shell V-power gas from my regular station (now at $ 4/gallon here). Wonderful experience driving home with sunroof and windows open. I think there were some weird stares from folks in SUV's.

After arriving home, I leaned out the idle mixture so that the AFR is about 12 - 12.5 at idle (fully warmed up). Had to back down the idle RPM when leaning out the mixture.

Will take it for another drive this week. Next up is some work on the brakes.
