Acetone will melt and destroy the vinyl. Mineralspirits will work if your patient. Give yourself a week and be careful....

Lacquer thinner will probably melt the vinyl dash. Acetone will melt the dash. MEK will melt the dash. Borden makes a dry lube spray in a can for sliding windows. I accidentlly got that on the dash lettering and it wiped the lettering off immediately without melting the dash material.

Old style BRAKE FLUID will probably work as well. Put some on a clean rag and gently wipe the surface. Try it, it might work.

Get a 5-speed decal from Keith Kreeger - it goes over and hides the 4-speed one.
