Reintroducing Myself

Recommended Posts

I am a member on here a couple years back with a 73 2002. I sold early this year. I needed another project to pass the time. I came across this 1600-2 last week. The vin is 1528870. It needs rockers and front floors. It's originally white but somebody had a Maco paint job put on it. My plan is to keep it original, but does that require me to respray the car the original color??? Any thoughts or input are appreciated.

Welcome back to the Fold ! Many of us were watching that early car and hoping it would end up with an enthusiast. Great to see you both on the FAQ.

The early steering wheel and dash are great. You have your work cut out for yourself. Take your time and take it slow. I am sure the early guys will chime in to set you straight on the differences on the early cars. I have a 67 NK 4 door which I will keep white. Keep us posted on your progress.

yours is early enough not to be a USA-only model--the only thing distinguishing it from its Euro bretheren is a speedo and gauges that speak English and MPH.

And it looks to have most of its original features--steering wheel, flat turn signals, headrest-less seats, metal inside door and window handles, mirror mounted on the leading edge of the door, 6v generator and regulator, early style air cleaner etc. Valve cover isn't original (67s were smooth except for the BMW emblem--no ribs).

Looks like someone "Released the Tinworm" so unlimber your welder...

And welcome back...no one stays away too long!

cheers

I am glad you bought that one! I was looking at it but if I bought it my wife would have made me live in it. Where in Wisconsin are you located? I may have some parts that can help. I look forwad to seeing it rise again! It looks like you have some welding ahead of you.

Congrats & good luck. My vote is for getting it back to its orig. look and feel. If it was originally Chamonix, that would be my first choice for a paintjob, but another early '02 color would be fitting. It may take some effort to find the early front grill and trim that you need, but it will be worth it.

That thing is really cool. Like Mike said, it looks pretty complete, too.

It would look good white - I think the white combined with the clean-ness of the styling works well together. It will scream "classic".

Have fun bringing it back!
