Vin #1660013 Found and saved. (nt)

So yesterday I bought VIN #1660013, and in my research I am having trouble finding an earlier survivor in private hands. Does anybody know of an earlier car out there?

These extremely early cars were kind of a mixture of a 1600 and 2002, (mechanical clutch and so on) and I want to find as much reference as possible.

The car is mostly there, but the interior is pretty wasted, and it has a decent amount of rust. Also it has a later motor. I am picking the car up this weekend, and once I get it home and do an inventory I will start a thread under the project index.

I will be looking for 68 1600/2002 interior, 3 piece dash, steering wheel. A to A+ quality only. Or if anyone has a 68 1600/2002 in the southeast that has a great interior I would be interested in the whole car. Feel free to email me using the link above.

More to come!

Thanks,

Jason

Very cool. Where was the car located?

The VIN is funny to me because my first debit card ever had the pin 0013, I was married on the 13th, and currently, our VW eurovan VIN ends in 0013..

Its been a theme in my life. I use it as gloves, to slap the face of bad luck.

2002 newbie, and dead serious about it.

Eurotrash,

The car was at an Atlanta area Mercedes restoration and repair shop. The owner had saved the car 10-15 years ago from being crushed, and never got around to repairing/restoring it. I restore early BMW's and British sports cars professionally, and specialize in rust repair. When the owner found me, he thought I might be the person to finally repair the metal damage in the car, and give it the proper restoration that it deserves. He was correct. I plan to dismantle the car this weekend and prep it for chemical dip. That will neutralize any rot that remains and get me to the point where I can start the fabrication.

Timmer,

I think we all know that the N in VIN represents the word number. I also realize that putting a pound sign after the initial for number is redundant. Unfortunately the English language has adopted a number of these little imperfections that plague most of us. Thank you for sharing your perfection with the rest of us.
