found an old 2002--now what?

One of my buddies has his grandma's old 2002 sitting in the backyard, covered in dust and spider webs. He claims that it will start, but it looks like it hasn't been touched in years. I'm going over there to check it out and see if we can't get it working. I have a fair amount of experience working on old American made cars, but I've never worked on anything European. If it doesn't start, which it probably won't, what are some of the first things I should look at to get it to run? Thanks!

Actually what's frightening is that we're all getting old enough that the 2002 sitting out in the field was someone's grandmother's....
