Heater Core repair?

EscapeArtist

Recommended Posts

When I disassembled my 2002 the heater core was obviously leaking into the passenger cabin. The firewall immediately under the heater core was devoid of most of the paint and a stream of coolant could be traced to the passenger side floor board where the "tar" pad and carpeting were soaked with coolant. Over the winter I would like to rebuild/repair the heater core. Does anyone know a vendor who could undertake this task or is this a DIY to which someone can provide some guidance? Would a better route be to just try to find and buy a good heater core?

take your radiator at the same time with

your heater core and get a better price

getting both done at the same time

Ask for a (the radiator) rodding out or re-core as needed

heater cores generally just need soldering

Also check to make sure that the heater valve isn't the one leaking. I thought that my heater core was bad. Turned out that the heater valve was leaking and the core was OK. I'm still glad I took the heater box apart and rebuilt it.
