BMW 801 Engine fired up

Jeff

Recommended Posts

This Focke-Wulf FW190-A5 is being restored by Paul Allen of (Micosoft) for his aircraft museum in Everett Washington.

The BMW 801 D2 engine is rated at 1677hp, here it is being fired up for the first time.

This is the same plane found in a Russian Forest outside Leningrad in 1989

Thanks for posting. It's great to see the old warbirds ressurected. As a kid, fine scale modeling planes of the Battle of Britain era was one of my favorite hobbies. My ceiling was covered in a mock battle with 109's & 190's vs. Hurricanes & Spitfires. (with a couple of burning B-17's and 111's thrown into the mix). If I had Microsoft/Jay Leno dollars I'd dive into the vintage warbird restoration scene. Until then I'm forced to live out my dog fights with my yellow nose squadron homage 2002 (nearly complete!). My next car project will have to be a TR-4 painted in a Hawker Tempest Royal Navy paint scheme: great color pallette. (A Triumph Spitfire painted like a Spitfire would be too obvious!) That way I can invite friends to dog fight on track.

Jeff,

Congratulations! If you're ever in Monterey...I owe you a beer. I told my brother when I put the wasps on that I'd buy a beer for the first person to recognize them. The car hasn't even seen the light of day yet, and already I'm out a beer. (humor)

The paint scheme is actually a mixture of inspiration from these car and warbird classics with the Me-109 color pallete. I just fused them all into one after numerous attempts on an 1/18th scale 2002 with modeling paint. Thanks to the fine scale model community I was able to get the font used by the Luftwaffe and take it to SignWorks to have my vinyl numbers & graphics done correctly.

Good eye, I owe you a beer...

Wow great job on the paint scheme!! I love it.

A customer of mine has a key employee whose last job was helping Paul Allen spend his money on warbirds. Since I live near Paine Field I get to see them fly often.
