If the Ad is from '67, then it's a 1600-2, but I think the top speed was a little optimistic.

My 1508028 '66 1600 would indeed do an indicated 105mph, with no more to go. Took a while to get there, but it got there.

My father just found the VINs of his old 1600s that he used to have back in the 70s...not sure where they ended up. One was Turf and one was Tampico. 1524323 and 1560114

I’d guess that VIN 1524323 is a 1967 model manufactured in May 1967. And I’d guess that VIN 1560114 is a very early 1968 model, manufactured September 1967. The former car was — as you likely know — a 6-volt car, while the latter was a 12-volt car, but one that retained many of the distinctive 1967 model year features: chrome-trimmed dash, silver-painted instrument cluster bezel, two-spoke steering wheel, etc.

If you haven’t already, you should pull BMW Group Archives reports on both and get them into our Registry. Who knows: maybe one or both is still around?

Best regards,

Steve

My '67 is #1528898, European import, sunroof car.

68gretchen,

I’m guessing that VIN 1528898 is a 1967 model, manufactured June 1967 (6-volt originally). I’m further going to take a long shot and guess it was Granada, color code 023. How about a BMW Group Archives report to check my work? Just email the VIN to info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com and request their data on the car.

The headrest seats, however, are likely post-1968 ( U.S.-delivery vehicles began receiving them January 1, 1969). The front bumper overriders are U.S.-spec., I believe available in Europe as an option in mid-1967, but they are relatively rare outside of the U.S. at that early date.

Factory sunroof - relatively rare on 1600-2’s, and certainly desirable!

Regards,

Steve

I'm not aware of any embossed hood trim. Do you have pictures?

The early cars had embossed trim... both the front nose piece and the piece between the tail lights. Here are two pictures with the embossing trim anodized (these are original trim pieces):

What? Those lil ole pics?!? [emoji6]

Btw, I’m heading up to Plainville tomorrow to spend some time with the lovely “Miss Bristol” (I haven’t officially dubbed her “Miss Bristol” but for now I think that’ll be this project’s code name) and the insanely talented crew that has been ever so delicately molding her back in to shape. It really is quite amazing how far they’ve come these last few weeks/months. A good portion of my day will be spent with a camera in-hand so I hope to have many, many pictures upon my return. Update to follow so... be on the lookout! [emoji102]

Steve...I have the low back no headrest seats and the embossed trim (front and back)...the original color was Chaminoux...very lousy re-paint but super solid body.

Please don't quote me but I think the cars has always been 12 volt...?

And it looks like a dry, non-rusty car! Where did it spend its life?

The parts records show the changeover to 12 volts occurring with VIN1533868 (manufactured August 18, 1967). Parts records have been wrong before, but if it’s a June 1967 car, it probably started life as a 6 volt. If it ever lived in a cold environment, it’s even more likely to have been converted to 12 volts: cold weather starts were not a strong suit of the 6-volt systems. I contemplated converting my 6-volt ‘67 before I decided to sell it and purchase the ‘76.

The car’s instruments are good tell tales: they’re all dated on their backs. If they are dated June 1967, or earlier, and are 12-volt, then it was probably a 12-volt from the factory.

Thanks for posting!

Regards,

Steve

Believe it or not it's entire life's been in New England...NH first and now Vt.

Must have always been garaged and never run in winter.

A scruffy time capsule !

Love it!
