1968 1602 Euro editionSOLD Several unusual parts. flush front running light, different front headlight buckets ( so I'm told ) with "city lights" running lights, antennae in center of trunk instead of in A pillar. Front seats with no headrest from the factory and has two tone interior. Most likely has higher compression motor. It is now listed on E-bay local classifieds for a $1500 Buy it Now price. The ad # is 150551963839. This car was/is listed on this site a little over a week ago but without pictures so hope this helps. Feel free to E-mail with questions. Marty

Rare gray interior. Could be Caribe Blue- Marty check for sticker inside hood passenger side, next to Vin plaque.

No Euro license plate lights in the bumper. No chrome under dash- I think that it is a U.S. model.

What is the Vin #

That is indeed Caribe!! Please tell us the VIN. It has that rare grey interior as well. Very cool.

Not only is the grey interior rare, its the only LEATHER interior offered in 1600's! I have the original 1966 1600 parts manual and in the upholstry section it lists Grey - Leather seating as an option next to the Black, Brown, Blue vinyl stuff. So grey only came in leather. The seat wear on this car would seem to back that up, as they are cracked and shredded more than you would normally see in vinyl seats. What a great color combo if restored, Caribe over grey.

Just noticed your post. Wouldn't know how to go about redoing interior, most of our normal resources couldn't get kits to redo it. Custom job I guess. VIN is 1564496 Euro? US? I wish someone would restore this car, I don't have the luxury or space at this point, have a lot of nice parts to slap on it though!! Thanks guys for all the input, would love to know more history.

Wow, I was not aware it was leather!! Why is my Caribe the only one I've seen without grey interior?

This is only the 3rd 02 I've ever seen in the US with grey interior. The other two had exteriors of Derby Grey and Verona Red and both were 1600's. I imagine they were all imports from Europe, not originally sold in the US, although maybe customers could have special ordered them from Hoffman. Hoffman likely did not import (at least not normally) the leather interior because it would have added alot to the cost and it was already pricy for a small car in the US.

Jeff, Thanks for the info. One of you guys said US car, wonder if it WAS a Custom Order. Its funny this is such an "oddball" edition. Right now I'm also selling my 2800cs project for $1800 and it has a sunroof, Vinyl, and I'm getting all these E-mails mostly from Europe saying this may be one of the earliest coupes ever built with a very uncommon option. Wish I had of restored and kept them, but no toys for now until I can afford my 840ci. Marty

Joseph, A guy out of Marin county, 50ish, bought the car. He is going to do a complete overhaul, he had an '02 in high school and always wanted one again. He was driving a high dollar new 528 and wasn't worried about the $, I'm sure he'll do it nice. Before and after the sale I was trying to let him know the virtues of that car. ( it is indeed leather, this was my first time back there since 2002faq discussion ) I showed him the other Euro like options and told him the concensus seemed to be that it was a US edition. He is picking up the car in a week or two and I am going to see what other parts I have laying around that he can have and let him know about 2002faq, he found it on E-Bay. Still have the complete but ugly racecar with lots of good parts and extras so will probably be on this sight a little longer selling and asking questions. At this point it looks like the 2800cs may be heading to Australia for a full resto. Thanks again Marty
