Wolfgang turns 42 today!

Assembled 4 Feb 1969, painted Nevada. Languished in storage until April due to a dock strike on the US East Coast. He's the 40th "second series" '69 off the assembly line.

I took delivery on 4 May '69 from Bavarian Motors in Queens NY...and have been driving him ever since. 223k miles on the original engine and drive train (except the clutch/ center support bearing); still going strong. Took me six years of on and off welding to repair the ravages of 30 Ohio winters. None since 2000.

Mike congrats and I'm jelous, it would be cool to be the original owner of a classic that you still enjoy.

Maybe I'm not the only one?:

Favorite part of aquiring a another car, and the first thing I usually do (aka the honeymoon) after towing it home is going through the glovebox papers to get an idea of where its been. I enjoy seeing the dates and places on old repair receipts etc...like a time capsule.

I really really like finding the original owners manual with the proud new owner's name and address neatly printed inside. I usually spend some time Googling to get a street view of the car's first home and seeing what I can find out about the person.

Happy Birthday Wolfgang!

Going on 36 years myself with a 76 I bought in Oct. 75. Believe it was built in August of 75.

I couldn't agree more! We were cleaning up a 55 Chevy Bel Air a while back, and there were all sorts of love notes, hippy beads, and even a bunch of old blue chip stamps in the glove box!

No doubt a bit younger that you, compadre. My first new car was a '72 02. I have fond memories of how awesome that car was compared to contemporary cars. I have to admit that my current 02 (a '73) is so enjoyable because it is so raw and tactile compared to my other, later model BMWs.
