As previously discussed on the cars for sale board I purchased a shell and tii motor this weekend and thought I would share some pictures. This car came with loads of extras including; bilstein shocks and struts (havent figured out if they are HD's or Sports yet), brand new rear subframe weather stripping for doors, trunk and windscreens, unused turbo flares, and spoilers just to name a few. I am going to try and get the Tii engine that came with it running and possibly swap my 32/36 over to it before I drop it into the car. All of my interior, drivetrain and other goodies will be moved to this shell to avoid costly rust repair on my DD, cant wait to get started!

Congratulations! Looks great.

I just picked up another '02 myself - a '76 Mintgruen. Trying to decide if the color will grow on me. Seeing yours with fresh paint gives me encouragement. Mine is now in the barn with my Verona 1602 (imported from Italy), and my Alfa Romeo. I figure if I put a vintage Bianchi Specialissima (in matching Celeste green) on the bike rack, and slap some Campagnolo stickers on the rear window, my other cars will warm up to their new stable-mate.

Anyway good luck with your new find!! Here's to all those 70's colors we thought we'd outgrown!

Several years ago I purchased a set of Borrani steelies from the owner of that Mintgrun car. It was great to chat with him and at the time he'd just received that tii engine and was gearing up to begin assembly.

It was a great-looking shell and I was certain at the time it would make a fine ride if completed.

The owner was a straight-shooter, very fair and I'm certain you got your money's worth.

Good luck transferring at the proper bits from your DD. Should be a great project.

Rijco,

I wasn't so sure about the color to start but every time I see it I like it a little bit more. Thanks fo the kind words and encouragement.

Delia,

The PO was definately a good guy and a straight shooter, wish he still had those boranis sitting around. He just kept throwing things into the deal, it was great. I am so excited to get this thing on the road, i was like a kid that cant fall asleep on Christmas eve last night.

Jerry,

I am in the east bay and just happened to be visiting family on the peninsula when I saw the ad and figured I might as well give it a look, it was meant to be!

Can somebody explain to me how to tell if this is an early or late nose?

grill opening is a dead giveaway - early grills are taller and narrower, late are shorter and more squared off..............

It's too bad the snorkle hole in the nose panel wasn't filled before the shell was painted, but since it wasn't, if the paint on the car is as nice as it looks you may want to think twice before messing with welding a patch into the hole. Welding is very likely to distort the surrounding metal, and you'll either need to strip the paint back quite a distance from the hole or risk having heat from the welding operation discolor the paint, and then you'll have to fill, smooth & spot paint the repair. Unless you have a really good metal man and painter available (or are pretty skilled yourself), it may be better to leave it as-is.
