I can't say I have seen every tii ever built but I have been playing with 2002's since 1973. Every tii I saw both round and square tail lights back in the early 70's did not have the snorkle. That was always the easiest way to know if the car had been in an accident. If you ordered a new nose piece from BMW it only came with the snorkle, you could not order the Ti/Tii/Turbo piece. I know because I tried a couple of times between 1975-1980.

My thoughts exactly...it would be like having bad hair plugs and pretending you're not bald. If the modification is not perfect, anyone could tell the snorkle was removed and made to look like it never existed. Too bad there is not 1 source of accurate information regarding the original build.
