Lower trim removal

Codfish

Recommended Posts

Lady and Gentlemen I just removed the chrome trim and (temporary) painted my rusted rocker panels... I need to replace the plastic "things" that the trim connects to... How can I remove and replace them ?

Peace and Thanx

R u talking about the plastic clips that hold the piece in place? If so, u can tap out the center piece(it's like a plastic dowel). Once that is done, u can pull the clip out. Not sure how to fish those dewel pieces out so u'll need to either buy new clips or find something to take its place when reinstalling.

try to save as many as those clips that you can, or leave them on there. the replacement ones are too small, and the moulding will move around. make sure you got really good t bolts, and there was a post just a few days back about someone using a couple t bolts to hold that sucker on. and dont shoot the messenger, bmw is the only place that makes the half-ass new clips.

you don't want to remove them. i made the mistake of removing all mine, unaware that the really good ones, which you currently have are no longer made. the currently manufactured replacements are not good.

asifallasleep wrote, "you don't want to remove them." But, if you look at his picture, he's already removed the clips. So, on to plan "B".

The retaining pins are easy to remove if you simply drill a small hole in the center of the pin and CAREFULLY thread a small screw into it. Then use a pair of pliers to pull the screw and pin out. It has never failed me yet.
yep that's how i removed mine.

Do your self a favor and buy a set of these stainless steel T-bolts made by fellow FAQ'er RIMSPOKE. They are the best for connecting the front part of the trim ahead of the clips:
