Hi Rob! I keep toying with the idea of a motorcycle. You have probably been there all ready but check out www.ibmwr.org I'd love a 1200GS or RT. Maybe the 800GS would be a good option. In '70 I rode an R50 around France, Portugal, Spain and Morrocco. Great bike! I look at the old timers (bikes), but having been away from it for so long, I'm thinking I'll take all the technology I can get if I go forward with it.

I have been thinking of getting a motorcycle too. I like the idea of an "RS," and while I think the old boxer models (R80gs in particular) would be my preferred bike, the new one cylinder 650s make more sense. I have been reading everything I can find about riding and Beemers. Previously had a couple different Yamaha Enduros.

Rob,

They are great bikes. I had a K1200rsa till I got hit by some jackwagon in a toyota truck that fled the scene, but it is not the rider it is all the idiots around them. The K1200 is a great bike. 130 HP and with saddlebags it can easily haul parts(small ones).

You will not regret a bike. just selling it....

1970 Grey 02 (the never ending project)
2007 328xi coupe (DD)

and a couple hondas for the kid.

sell the e30 and get a BEEMER (yes, a bim cycle)

I know its IMPOSSIBLE to go wrong with a bmw motorcycle, but anyone have any other tips? an old R75 would do me nicely, I think....

Here are the four I have. Your right, you cannot go wrong with any Beemer bike. You will get a lot of opinions but get the one you think you want depending on what type of riding you want to do and how much & how far. Time will tell if it was right. If not, get another type. R, RS, GS, /2, /5, /6, /7 whatever... You can't go wrong if you use it for what it was intended for.

One tip may be to stay away from the 74's as the trannies had a weak link and most folks were replacing them with the 75 trannies.

Couple links for ya...
