What is it worth? High Teens ? 1967 1600-2, serial number 1520293. When it was purchased in Overland Park, Kansas on May 4th 1967, it sold for $2850.01. A 1962 Rambler was the trade in vehicle. The car has had 4 owners and has 65,000 miles, a number supported by paperwork and by conversations with one of the previous owners. The second owner, the daughter of the first owner is in her 70's. The front turn signals were replaced. The car was painted in the 70's with the "original paint". The radio knobs have slid under the center console. Let me know what you think.

Based on limited info and assuming all is solid and in good order, I'd say low teens, but it's worth whatever someone will pay!

as 1600 center grilles had silver bars. Easy enough to remedy, though. Presume it's still its original 6 volt electrical system...

how does it drive ?

how does it brake and steer, and handle bumps?

any exhaust smoking when hot and coming down

exit ramp?

and you must look close and deeper for rust or

past rust repair - any accident repairs?

condition of calipers, pads and rotors?

condition of all the hoses under the hood?

any signs of water leaking into the interior?

you need to look into these and other details before

sleeping with this dame

COMPRESSION TEST and what did the plugs look

like (nasty deposits?)

"looks?" great

+1 for CD's questions.... and my guesstimate would be in the low to mid teens., simply because.... as cool as early 1600's are to me and a few others here... it is not a Ti or Tii or an Alpina car, thus just not worth as much.... yet.

What it is worth is getting a professional appraisal!!!!!!!!!

I don't know of an appraiser in your area familiar with BMWs, but I have used and recommended this company a few times with great results. Perhaps they can refer you to someone closer to you.

The Automobile Appraisal Association is based in San Francisco with agents/offices all over California.

http://www.customcarappraisers.com/

Classic car insurance companies like Grundy or Hagerty also have known Appraisers they can refer you to.

After you get it appraised you should then get an agreed value insurance policy on it.

I can not express getting an appraisal and agreed value insurance enough.

For reference material... there is a member here named Mars who's very similar low mile early '67 1600-2 was involved in a shop fire a few years ago. The car was unfortunately totaled, but in the process it was appraised. I'm sure he would be happy to help you. He has the email link through the FAQ enabled, you should be able to contact him that way.

Nice looking car for sure. If it looks as good in person, has good mechanicals, you replaced the carpet and other worn items that are not original (grille/trim/signals), and it has no body damage/bodo issues/rust then high teens seems right to me. Color does not look quite like Verona to me, but maybe its the lighting. It's a nice looking shade of red but if its another non-02 color that diminishes the value somewhat. Overall great looking 1600 in my 3rd fav color combo behind Caribe/Grey, Florida/Brown.

i thought verona wasn't available until modell '71 (although the FAQ color chart shows it being avail starting in '68)? i'd guess that the original paint was granada, although from the pictures provided, it looks like it may currently be a shade somewhere in between those two colors. Really nice looking car! Love the '67's.

Paging Ben Younce, Sam Adams, Karl Hendrickson, & Meg Vanderliest -- who own early 1600-2's..... They will know the unique features of the early ones. I've driven Karl's and it is great fun - they are definitely lighter than my '75 2002.

Doesn't really look like Granada either though...I know the carpet is original but I was meaning it looks like its in need of replacement to get prime dollars for the car. Old and likely smelly carpet brings the interior down on a first impression IMHO :)

Mike:

Thanks for your input about the grill. And yes, this is still a 6 volt system. Also, the window washer reservoir is an oval shape, sort of like a football.

The reservoir is in the picture. Also, the second owner told me that she painted the air filter black.

Be well

Thanks for your input about the grill and the other points that you brought up.

A close inspection of the interior does not reveal any moisture damage. In fact the rubber around the windscreen is actually pretty good. It does not smoke when running, but I think that the carb should be rebuilt or adjusted and the right rear caliper needs to be replaced. Besides that, the car runs fine. Someone ( the third owner ) burned the inner door panel with a cigarette. Fortunately, I have a replacement panel from the same year and it is a perfect match. Unfortunately, I do not have time to do anything. The seats as well as the dash are unmarked.

Be Well and thanks for your consideration. I added 2 more pictures. One of the rear of the car and another of the back sides of the front seats. I noticed on the rear bumper the license plate lights are located on the top of the bumper. Is this unique for European models or is this unique to the year the car was made.

(Most of) the early cars exported to U.S. had the euro license plate lights in the rear bumper. And flat front turn signal assemblies.

The knobs on the instrument panel are illustrated, right?

Nice car!

Cheers,
