Also don't rule out an E28 5 series. Not quite the mileage of the E30 eta, but an excellent family hauler and the 528 is still an MPG car (though a 533/535 MUCH more fun).

Also last time I checked 2nd gen MR2s have quite the following. You should be able to swing a decent trade or get some money out of it.
