Block # 2762827: is there an 02 somewhere to match?

I needed a 4-speed trans quick for my DD and I recently bought a 1975 supposed Tii (VIN#2363775) so I could pull the trans out of it. The motor I got with the car was disassembled, missing the ignition, intake & fuel system etc. and has 72 cast into it so I figured that was a 1972 (could be my mistake for making an assumption).

When I found the area on the block where the motor number is it was stamped 2.0 on one side (numbers facing the trans) and +2762827+ (numbers facing the radiator) on the other side. So I figured perhaps I could reunite the block with whomever owns the 02 with VIN# 2762827. Funny thing is when I look up the motor # in the VIN# search box on REALOEM I don't come-up with a car?

Am I missing something (besides my brain cells)? I can add pics tomorrow.

I have 2762913 down in Austin!

Regardless, we really need to have an informal gathering in the Austin area. Once I am back next week I may set something up.

Hey Jason,

Your VIN# is amazingly close to this block - wow! It would be to great to get together when you back in town and have some time.

Thanks for confirming with the list Les has. It's good to know that it was original to a Tii. It will be great if the current owner of VIN# 2762827 turns up!

I'm not a Tii expert period. But I did take a picture of the ID tag on the car and it calls it out as a Tii (unless the tag has been swapped sometime in the past). The color and VIN# 2363775 match what the BMW search response said it was (produced as an early 1975) but they didn't confirm it was indeed a Tii.

for the '74 & up models, BMW VINs had 2002/2002tii on the plate. It catered for both models.

Yours in a '75 carburetted model (not a tii).

Unfortunately, I suspect 2762827 may well be RIP, as I would assume an Owner would want to keep a tii motor with the car, but, you never know.

Seems the car may have found its way to Texas at some point.

That explains it - many thanks Les! My first 02 was a Roundie so I am learning the Squarie side of things as I go (not that I Roundies very well either).

So that makes it an easier decision as I really was thinking about selling the 1975 as a roller because I don't think I'll ever have time for it. Although I do have a 1976 parts car as well....

Texas Round-Up - Great idea! I just need to get one of the 02 or 635 DD's reliable enough for for a longer than 30 mile drive. :-)

I figure I should be able to keep at least one of the 70's vintage BMW's running at one time though it's been a bit trying lately.... I suppose it's also a bit warm on the way home from work without A/C when it's been in the high 90's/low 100's every day (but could be worse).

Hey Phil,

Did you find that car off Lamar St in Austin?. Sitting under a tree for about 20 years? Showing a tii tage? Mintunge was a color used in 75...No tii's in the US with that color.

TX2002 Roundup GREAT IDEA! ...Who's hosting? Date ..?

Hey Chris, Yep, first saw the car 3 or 4 years ago when I was looking for parts for a friend's 450sl. At the time I had noticed the Tii badge on the back but also that it was "carb'd" under the hood.

Didn't know about the color not being available on a US Tii which would of made it easy. Of course not having a clock in the dash among other little things did make me wonder. I ended up needing a 4 speed fairly fast so really that's why I bought the car.

I'm hoping someone will want to buy the rolling shell as its a pretty solid southwest car that's worth saving (versus cutting it up for parts....) and it will be fairly cheap.

I'll start putting together a mailing list to try and come up to speed (I've just got my Roundie back after it's been gone almost three years) and when Jason get's back let's see what we can put together.

Ahhh, Wecome to the madness.....Are you a TX2002 member?

I've been eyeing that car for about 4 years also..I have a M42 E30 car.

Was planning to use the rolling shell for the cnversion. I have a complete 1991 E30 318is car with all the parts for the conversion. It's not a top priority ..Still have my 72 tii with paint & body and a 72 Inka in need of a camshaft. ...Do you have an extra camshaft?
