SOLD 1971 2002 - Price advice needed SOLD

2double02

Recommended Posts

All,

I am seeking advice on the value of my 71 2002. I am selling it to fund the restoration of another one. I realize it will be difficult to recover my investment in the car but I built it with no intentions of ever selling it. I can't find too many similar cars to compare it to so I am asking the experts. Feel free to respond via the forum or directly to 2double02@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance for your help.

General

The car looks as good in person as it does in the photos and was recently named People's Choice of 85 2002s at Vintage in Winston Salem, NC. All work described below completed was within the last 18 months with lots of help from BMW 2002 faq members and talented local resources.

Body

Originally finished in Sahara beige. Any identified rust properly

repaired with new or rust free donor panels. Spare tire well replaced

with an e30 well. Terrific original rear shock towers. Car was epoxy

primed, blocked several times, and sprayed with Dupont base coat/clear

coat in Verona red. Buffed and polished to a gorgeous liquid like

finish. Front and rear side markers deleted. Engine compartment

finished in satin back. Floor pans, inside and out, undercoated along

with trunk. New euro front signals, belt line and knee trim, badges,

2002 emblem, trapezoid mirror, trim between taillights, license plate

lamps, front windshield, front and rear window rubber and lock strips,

door rubber, outer door chrome and felt sweepers, door sills, antenna,

rain gutters and proper aluminum wiper blades. Rear bumper

professionally re-chromed with euro seam covers and new rubber trim.

Any remaining trim cleaned/polished such as rockers, b-pillar and

lower rear quarter window pieces. Kamei style front spoiler

seamlessly molded to car with small tubular reinforcements from lip

back to original rust free front valance. Hella H4 headlights. The

exterior finish is nothing less than outstanding. The paint quality is exceptional.

Interior

Custom vinyl stitched dash by Chris Willet complimented by new leather

Momo steering wheel with white stitching. Vinyl covered console face

with DIN type Sony AM/FM/CD powering two 6x9" Boston Acoustic speakers

mounted under the rear seats. New OE headliner, sun visors, shift

boot, shift knob, rear parcel shelf and golden wheat colored loop

carpet by World Upholstery with padding. New retracting seat belts in

front. No rear belts installed but will include originals if

requested. Door panels and rear panels are from a later car and are

in very good condition. The front panels have been installed on new

boards from Aardvarc racing. Front seats are adjustable Flofits

mounted on refinished e21 Recaro rails. Front and rear seats were

reupholstered in matching vinyl a few years ago and still look

terrific. Recovered rigid gray trunk panels with custom red trimmed

black carpet mat by esty.

Suspension, Wheels and Tires

joints. New H&R Sport springs lowering the stance by about 1.5". New

Hydraulics

New front brake calipers, pads and rotors. New rear wheels cylinders

and shoes. New brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder and

Best advice I can offer. Post it on Ebay and let the market decide.

As a tastefully done non-Tii I'd put in the mid-teens.

I saw your car at The Vintage, and I thought it was done to a high standard. I am sorry you have to sell it, since it would be hard to recover everything you put into the build. My recollection is that it had only been driven a few hundred miles since the full restoration was complete. Your paint was perfect, your wheels were drawing admire/envy, and I loved your front seats. GLWS.

Thanks to all for the advice and compliments. The trip to Vintage was one of the first drives since it was put back together. It probably has less than 300 miles in total since completion. I enjoyed the restoration process so much that I would like to do another one to a lower standard that I will be more prone to drive everyday. Friends and family are convinced I will not be able to part with it and they may be right. Definitely a labor of love.

Instead of selling and restoring one to 'lesser' standard. Enjoy and drive this one. No one else will treat it like you do.

Wow nice car, as the forum suggests hard to peg a price on such a beauty.

All I can relate is what I have experienced in my recent try to sell a very nice # 2 condition 1972 Golf Yellow in So Cal.

Received a 17K offer but refused due to wanting all my org. literature & 70's ads and having roughly 25k in it. Probably dumb on my part but I don't have immediate need to sell.

Your overall condition is nicer albeit custom, I do really like it.

I would suggest 20K

Mine is pretty std.

Doubt if this helps you.

I personally think ebay is a low ballers world .

Golf Yellow 1972 Roundie, Std, no mods ,no rust, no track days & restoration 95 % there

Jim,

Thanks for posting the great pics. I think yours are better than mine. I regret not spending more time talking with folks at Vintage but we had our 2-year old there and we sepnt a lot of time running around with her.
