BMW WAS NOT BUILDING CARS IN 1948 .

KEEP IN MIND THAT THEIR CAR FACTORY WAS LOCATED IN EISENACH BUT AFTER THE WAR , IT WAS IN COMMUNIST EAST GERMANY !

THEY STILL HAD THE FACTORY IN MUNICH BUT IT WAS SET UP TO BUILD MOTORCYCLES , NOT CARS .

THAT DIDN'T MEAN THEY COULDN'T LICENSE THEIR DESIGNS &

SUPPLY COMPONENTS TO OTHER COMPANIES , LIKE BRISTOL & VERITAS .

THE MOTOR IS MOST LIKELY A CRATE ENGINE LEFT OVER FROM BEFORE THE WAR .

THE LOW PRODUCTION NUMBERS OF THE BRISTOL MEANT

IT WAS NOT A LARGE UNDERTAKING TO KEEP THEM SUPPLIED WITH PARTS .

THIS WAS GOOD BUSINESS FOR THEM DURING THOSE YEARS SINCE

IT ALLOWED BMW TO RAISE THE CAPITAL IT TOOK TO GET BACK INTO CAR PRODUCTION ,

WHICH THEY MANAGED TO BO BY THE EARLY 50's
