Question: Is the timing chain tensioner piston, spring and nut missing?

No that's the waterpump.

It has a mechanical timing chain tensioner.

Sorry - serves me right for trying to steal a look at the FAQ during my lunch break. I now see that opening is the water pump.

Looks amazing!

Don't feel bad about it...good things take time! Mine has been apart that long. We drove my car back from 02-02-02 in Spartanburg and immediately stripped it down. I just got it back down on the ground this week - mushy brake pedal so still can't drive it :(
