Yep, over 20 years also on the Chesapeake, out of Deltaville. Previously owned a J-29 and a C&C 35. I continue to race with Fishing Bay Yacht club. Crewing is a lot cheaper than owning.

Good luck with the Santana. I like the lines and the fin keel. Fiberglass boats built before 79 tend to be very rugged. Interested in details....sail inventory, auxillary power, hull speed, etc.

cheers,

Michael

Yes the fiberglass is in perfect shape...it was nice and thick, maybe too thick, but it makes it very rugged. Its got a NEW Yanmar 20hp Diesel motor, 5 year old sails including a 135 and 155 Genoa....hull speed is about 8 knots...

Nice Boat!

Yep - sailor here too. I crewed (foredeck) for many years on a few different racing boats my friends owned on Lake Pontchartrain (NOLA) and along the Gulf Coast and to Mexico. I'm crewing again regularly nowadays on a sweet Corsair 28R trimaran. I find sailing almost as enjoyable as driving my 02. ;-)

I've been sailing for close to 15 years now (I'm 20!). I started sailing myself on sunfish in some of the local lakes. Then I helped my mom on her '83 33' Pearson bay boat around Annapolis. Then I got in to some junior J24 racing and eventually a couple times crewing in regular races.

Most recently, my mom and stepdad moved on to their '89 47' Bristol Sail boat. It is a huge boat in my opinion, weighing in at over 23 tons dry... The fiberglass in the cockpit is over an inch thick (I had to cut through it when I installed their new chartplotter). Whatever the case, the boat points very well, is super stable in rough seas and still loves to cruise above %50 wind speed.

They are currently live-aboards, cruising around the Carribean. They certainly know how to make me jealous!
