welding floor drain plugs? pointless? ironic? must do?

So I've got my floors rid of all the bavarian tar and reading around here, the consensus is that the floor plugs be removed, cleaned and rewelded shut. My question is, wouldn't those plugs serve a purpose if California had a rainy season?

How do you even remove thr plug, I've got the ips of the plug to come up but it still seems locked.

Should I still weld them, or will the dynamat and " thr must for rust" take care of the issue?

those plugs are twisted in place. you can loosen them using a small punch and judiciously hammering on the three little slotted openings, alternating between openings to gradually get the plug to rotate. if it doesn't come out after rotating in the clockwise position, try rotating counter-clockwise.

i merely clean them, repaint and otherwise deal with exposed/corroded metal then reinstall using a seam-sealer on the mating surfaces and over the exposed edges from the interior and underside of car.

i would not bother to weld them.

As I recall, the replacement footwell panels donot have these plugs.

The holes can be of some use, however. Here's '72tii (VIN 2762084) getting a new set of frame rails. Great place sneak in a clamp or two for the spot welds.

Thing is, whatever they 'dipped' the car in, it certainly

didn't protect much from rust...

CD, you don't have a pic or 3 of the dipping process, do you?

The average shell doesn't show much

sign of being dipped. So whatever it was they got dipped in, it

musta been mostly VOC's!

Hadn't though much about that before...
