What is your Rpm at 65mph.4 Speed.

After taking my first longer drive with my car I am wondering If my differential is not stock.

I have a rather stock engine with a stock 4 speed trans with a 32/36 weber carb.

185/70/13 wheels/tires.

What should my rpm be at around 60-65 mph. I checked my speedo with a gps app and the speed seems to be accurate.

Thanks

My 2002 was manufactured on September 15th, 1971 and delivered on October 22nd, 1971 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Granada, paint code 023. It was sold on New Years Eve December 31st 1971.

revs high huh?

my 1600 stock 4 spd just over 4k on the rpm

I have heard the term "beechcraft"

LOL after a few long road trips in my 4 speed 02 I often felt like I was sitting ina blender. Went to the 5 speed route and what a joy on the freeway.

I'm not as dumb as I look

Actually, it's not high is why I was wondering. At 65 mph, I am around 3000-3200 rpm.

At 4000 RPM I am doing an indicated 75 which is closer to 68 or 70. I have a 4 speed with a 3.91 and 195/50R15's. I really dont see how a 4 speed is that bad. I drive highway with it and it's really not all that bad.

Maybe your tach is acting up. Mine occassionally will run about 500-600 slower for whatever reason then will start reading normally...I am told it may be due to a poor ground but have not had time to check it yet

When in doubt check the owner's handbook.

3000 rpm = 90 kph or 56 mph

4000 rpm = 120 kph or 74 mph

This is with the standard US 3.64 rear end of course. My car shows 75 at 4000 rpm or so.

My tach used to read 3000 at 70 mph so I bought a dwell meter with a tach mode and discovered the tach was reading wrong. I changed the tach and everything was fine. There is a chart in the FAQ somewhere that will show what the revs should be. I think it's pretty common for a speedo to read high also.

Same as my '74 Touring.

In round numbers 3000rpm = 60mph, 3500 = 70mph, 4000 = 80mph.

I think I have a 3:64 diff.

The so-called hi rpms don't bother me. It really smooths out between 3500-4000rpm.

GPS Verified

4,000 RPM is 65mph

Now why am I at 3200 rpm at the same speed?
