Seemed like a hack deal to me, too, but I've seen the plastic ends on several tiis, and only on the rod between the throttle shaft and the injection pump. Must have been reason for it?

That linkage piece used to come with the plastic ends from BMW back in the day. If you order that piece now from BMW, it comes with the regular metal ends. And, the last time I checked, (about a year ago), all of those linkage pieces were still available from BMW. I ordered all of them through the BluntMeister. Even the replacement metal ends. Have they all gone NLA recently?

I just noticed the KFish pump guide shows that linkage rod with the plastic ends. Curious. They obviously had metal ball sockets available, so must be a reason for the plastic.

Plastic was in the early cars. Everything changed to metal ball ends later.

Any idea why? The other 2 rods in my '73 have metal ends. If I were BMW, I would have used all metal from the start unless I had a reason not to do so.

To me, the plastic ends become brittle over time and break too easily.

The short metal ones from Mercedes-Benz work just fine (or the 3-piece set from Jack Fahuna).

You can still get the vertical linkage piece new from BMW.

Even my 74 tii (5/74 build date) came with the plastic ends on the forward most linkage piece. If you order that part (#13511260343) from BMW now it comes with the metal ends.
