1980 320i automatic timing

OK i got my cylinder head swap done , but im having problems with the timing . With a 30mm socket on the front nut . the motor only turns so far and then it stops . Locks up . Do i have the the timing chain on wrong ? Before i got it , it was driven hot and the head cracked . Whats the best position for the auto tranny when im trying to turn the motor by hand .

i think thisw should me moved...

the torque converter should spin freely no matter the gear selected.

if you havent took the trany out, you have then something wrong with the timing chain/cam/valves hitting pistons.
