I just picked up a 96 318ti beater and it needs a lot of fixin.

Biggest item is that it needs a complete exhaust system including catalytic converter.

Someone cut the converter out and put a pipe in.

I had thought of getting a 318ti, but the ones available were usually auto., beat down, or modified badly, etc. It's hard to find a good one. Good luck with your 'new' car.

It is a bummer that you are in Ohio. (Not to mean that there is anything wrong with Ohio.) I have a complete exhaust system off my 96 that is getting converted to an S52. But shipping will cost more than the system is worth.
