Lug torque

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have the lug torque value for 13x5.5 factory alloys -- style B? Wheel part #36 11 1 124 111.

Searched the forum without success.

Also, any tips for installation? Thanks.

Many thanks. A very useful chart. So the torque value is the same for alloys as for steelies?

Yes, I'll be using alloy specific lugs. I understand great care must be used in mounting the wheels ...because these lugs may not always seat properly on the first try.

Thanks.

I seem to remember one of my BMW friends saying that ... particularly in light of the tapered head design on the lug. Some shops like Just Tires may just slam the wheel on without double checking the seating and then applying torque.

When running aluminum rims on the race car, I come in after a few

laps and retorque. Almost always are some of the nuts loose,

as in 40 ft/lbs or less. Especially if the nuts are new to the rims.

With a steel or steel- inserted (Panasport) rim, that happens a lot less.

We all check our wheel nut torques regularly when racing, though.

You start to see patterns pretty quickly...

2002 rims are "lug centric" rather than hub centric, which means the lugs must be tightened evenly in a star pattern to make sure the wheel seats properly. I run them down by hand until they seat, then do a few rounds of light and medium tightening in a star pattern with the wheels off the ground. Then I drop car and do final torque in a star pattern. After a track session be sure to let the rims cool before checking torque and re-tightening any that are not up to spec. Torquing a hot lug nut will yield too high a final torque.

I’m always surprised by someone just doesn’t give the torque value instead of having to send you some else so you can look more for it when they obviously know it

Maybe they thought having access to all torque values was a good thing for the poster to have access to. It’s one click to the values he was seeking back in 2011.

And there is always the old “teach a man to fish …” saying.

I'm often confused when 11 year old threads are bumped

especially to gripe about something that I like to call 'answer fatigue'

and inaccurately in this case, as the first responder included the answer...

along with the link.
