Will an e30 LSD bolt into a 2002?

Hmm, I was under the mistaken impression that the unit was larger in size leaving less room for oil. This actually is good news, because I really REALLY wanted this to work.

Was that a small case E30? There's an OS Giken aftermarket LSD for the medium case (E30M3) that I'd love to put in my 2002.

small case, same size as the '02 diff. Medium case has different mounts and is a fair bit wider.

Edit, it won't bolt in but if you can weld all you need is a set of E21 77-79 halfshafts and then to weld the support onto your subframe. Those halfshafts are the perfect length for the E30 medium case diff on an '02 subframe with '02 trailing arms.

No. Small case is 168mm ring gear, medium case is 188mm. -KB

BMW diffs come in small, medium, and large. I think the large is 210mm but if I'm wrong I'll be corrected quickly. For the most part, the gears and carriers are interchangeable within the same size cases, but each size case has multiple styles of cases that are not necessarily interchangeable. Take the E30 small case for instance. It will interchange with the e30 medium case but it won't bolt into a 2002 or an e21.
