e30 oil pressure switch replacement

It's my Dad's 1988ix with almost 240K miles. He recently received some estimates for some work and the labor seems silly. Two hours to replace an oil pressure switch? I don't have the car so I can't go look where it is, but 2 hrs seems way too much.

Also 5 hrs to replace front struts and strut bearings/mounts. I know the ix is a bit more complicated than other e30s, but does that sound right?

The struts and bearings may be correct. Remember, on the ix you are dealing with half-shafts up there.

I'm not sure on the ix, but on my E30M3 the oil pressure sender is down on the block, behind the alternator. It does involve removing the air box, and possibly the alternator if you need to turn a wrench on it. But with a stock sender, I think a socket would work.

Take a look at RealOEM and see if the diagrams there give you an idea where it sits on the ix.

The switch is under the forward header

I think it is threaded into the oil cooler

Housing, it is easy to change. The struts

Are easy to service. A local repair shop

Can do both in one hour with a portable

Spring compressor. There is no reason to

Take the struts off for the bearings or

Inserts.
