FYI: universal door opener reciever kit

I blew up my garage door opener remote receiver so was looking at how to fix it and came across an add on receiver that I just ordered. Cheaper than a replacement circuit board for my door motor unit.

I wish I would have known about this years ago when I replaced the whole thing primarily to get modern remote systems, keypads, home link, etc.

How i blew up the receiver: I was adjusting the door rollers/track as it was binding and I opend and closed the door so many times in a row something overheated and I heard a pop/saw smoke coming out of the head unit. Weirdly everything worked except the keypad which I was not able to program again. All the other remotes still work.

I got locked out the other week and my wife want's the keypad for back up.

How I got locked out. Went to the XU/cinci Crosstown shoot out (BRAWL) with a buddy. He drove so I took a remote to get back in. The remote did not work. Borrowed neighbors car and got a new battery at the local hardware store. Remote still did not work so had to break into the house. Thought it was the remote receiver getting more problems but then took my battery tester and found my old remote battery was dead AND THE NEW BATTERY FROM THE STORE WAS DEAD TOO. A new working battery in the remote fixed it. One moral. don't buy batteries at the cute little old hardware store on the corner even if the date on the battery packing is use by a few months from now.
