Anybody ever tried painting door panels?

Just wondering. I have a '73 Chamonix car that originally had a blue interior. I have changed out just about everything to black except the front door panels. They are in great shape, but look out of place now. Why couldn't I just tape the trim strips and spray paint them?

Not sure about painting, but there are vinyl dyes, like SEM landou black or other colors effectively used to change the color of door panels and other plastic interior trim parts. You need to use some kind of dye promoter and clean the panels really good, otherwise the dye will chip off.

Spray paint would turn out awful.

buttt...they make a vinyl/fabric spray paint (I think rustoleum and duplicolor).

It works great, I've painted seats with it before and it doesn't seem to wear at all...if it does, touch it up.

any corner parts store will have one kind or another vinyl dye for about $5 (duplicolor, rustoleum, etc) you can easily change the color...just make sure the part you're gonna spray is absolutely clean...i clean with whatever spray cleaner i have handy then do a final wipe with a clean cloth dampened in lacquer thinner just before spraying the dye

a lot of the colors, including black comes in gloss and satin...

I dyed front and back tan panels to black for Da Beater.

I used Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric spray black, from Advance Auto.

They still look good after a couple of years.

Dying dark blue to black would be easy.

WOW that tan to black change is AMAZING. And the carpet piece you put in there actually looks good.
