Rear suspension questions

I pulled off the rear wheels for the first time on my new 74 today.

While it looks like a tire was rubbing on the shock, it must have been something that was on there earlier -- the bottlecap wheel and tires don't show any sign of rubbing.

Is there a way to ID this bilstein -- is it a HD or a sport?

While the passenger side trailing arm is boxed like it should be for a Tii, the drivers side one is not :(

How hard is it to get a Tii trailing arm?

Is the rear subframe the same between Tii and non-Tii?

Thx,

Byas

no, that rubbing is from the shock boot.

Get the number off the shock, stick it into search, that will tell you what

the shock is.

Yes, you can box the standard trailing arm.

no there is no difference in subframe.

You're doing lots of work to your car in a short period of time. I'm impressed!

Those rear shocks are most likely HD units since they are a nice upgrade to the stock shocks.

Here are some pics of my rear HD shocks from June 2010

looking at first pic i was thinking....time for a pressure washer.

scrolled down to second pic....zing! all clean! you work fast! :-)

agree, probably from shock boot. tire rub would not wrap around that far. jim already beat me to the HD part number.

It is the shocks top plastic cover which will make that kind of contact with the body of the shock and takes the paint off. That will appear on most Bilsteins with some mileage on them. That cover is flexy if you didnt notice and when the suspension make hard abrupt movements to the bottom of its travel its not unusual for the plastic cover to make contact with the shock body. Get some yellow paint and call it a day on that one.

Put a want ad out for a tii trailing arm on the forum.

Put the wheel back on, get the car back down on the floor. Drive about maybe a mile to get the suspension back to its normal position. Then lay yourself down on the floor and take a look at the rear Bilstein.

With what you will see you should be 100% convinced that it´s the plastic cover that has rubbed off the paint.
