175/70R14 tires

I'm looking at Kumho Solus KH16 175/70R14 tires to put on my 14x6 bottlecaps.

Currently I have 8 yr old Warrior 195/60R14 tires. The front tire slight rubs the tie-rod ends -- not all the time, but perhaps on turns or something.

So I'd like to go narrower to give more clearance as well as to reduce effort needed with the fast ratio steering box.

The 175/70R14 on some sites is shown as fitting a 6"wide rim, but on the Tire-rack they recommend it only up to 5.5".

So wondering if this size is ok for the 6" rim?

Thanks!

Is the rubbing with the tie rod end common with 195 size tires on this rim?

In 185 -- Isn't 185/65 a better size (from a rolling dia)? Did you recommend 185/60 because it is more common?

I'd still like to know if 175/70 would fit or hear from anyone who has installed 175/70.

Yes, 185/65r14 is the correct size when rolling diameter is of concern, only -.07% shorter than the stock 165r13 size. The 175 will be narrow looking on the wheels and hurt performance.

The 185/60r14 is -3.8% shorter than the original 165r13. That's shorter than the general recommendation to stay within 3% + or - of stock rolling diameter. Though, if anyone is looking for a short tire look and quick(er) turn in then by all means go for the 185/60.... ;)

I have 185/65-14's on my E30 steel wheels. They fill the wheel wells enough to look like they belong and the performance is a bit better than the 165's. With the roads I drive on, I like having a little more compliance with taller sidewalls.
