recommended tire pressure

Recommended Posts

I just installed new tires on my daily driver (Sumitomo HTR T4 185/70 R13). What tire pressure should I use? I currently have them pumped up to 32 psi. Is that too much? Thanks,

John

32 all round? no that's good

or back down to 26 psi all round and see how that feels

depending on the driving conditions, your suspension,

tire construction/size, tread wear pattern, alignment?

you may need to have a different Front/Rear setting..

Front/Rear

26/26

28/28

30/30

32/32

26/28

28/32

34/30

36/30

all depends on many factors

Thanks CD,

Makes sense. I think I'll lower it down to a cold pressure of 26 for both front and rear to see how that feels. Car has a suspension package (anti-sway bars front and rear, shorter springs, shocks, fixed camber plates) that Dinan used to sell that uses their custom valved Bilsteins (somewhere between sport and HD). Thanks,

John

I ran 30 all around when I had 13's and 14's. When I went to 195/50R15's I went to 35 on all corners which works out pretty good.

I run 185/60 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1s on 14 x 6 wheels and use 32# front and 30# rear. This is with shortened springs, 19mm bars front and rear, and HD Bilsteins. The lower rear pressure helps the rear end come around a little better, since I have the same size bars front and rear. I'd prefer a bigger bar in front (by a couple of mm), but this is what I have.

I base this on a ton of autocross experience with boxes full of trophies. I have two Porsche Parade class wins (in a 356A) and a BMW CCA Oktoberfest class win (in the tii class, though my car is not a tii).

John,

For what it is worth I regularly run 30 psi in my 195/60-14 Sumitomo HTR 200.
