1971 BMW 2002; 2nd owner, must sell this week, all original (san francisco)

i have to sell my long time -oh so special- baby, now that things have changed in the car arena. It was purchased from the original owner, (with documentation) back in the late 90's, and i have kept it original and in excellent running condition. The car has a 4 speed, with Nevada paint on the original Saddle interior. Nothing has changed much in over 20yrs, except for the traditional maintenance, rebuilt engine, etc.

Barbara or Richard 65o--344-o566. The car needs to sell this week, otherwise ??

Anybody able to go inspect this car? He's asking $4800...I'd love to get an opinion on it. It looks fairly decent from what I've seen at http://beyond2.com/jens-1971-bmw-2002-nevada-on-saddle-4-speed-old-faithful/

Looks like a fairly straight car and the price isn't out of range for an original-looking roundie in an unusual color. Beyond02 prices tend to be toward the top of the market, but I imagine there is a certain level of security buying from a specialist. A few things I can see from the photos... front half has certainly been resprayed (some overspray on VIN tag/paint sticker), front clip appears to have been replaced, carpet is not original.

Good luck! I really like Nevada. I owned a Nevada car, but it had been resprayed something closer to Sahara.

So I went to take a look today. Seller seems a really nice guy, he's owned the car for about 3 months and repairs them for a living. But enough about that, on to the car:

- Runs really well, starts right up from cold and hot with just choke, no gas pedal. Pulls strongly up to 5K (that's as far as I went). No smoke to be seen.

- Body is really solid, barring a couple of button-sized bubbles behind the right rear wheel, and the hood, which has 50-cent coin sized bubbles along the leading edge of the hood, and some significant crispiness under the roundel. Oh, and some minor holes in the spare tire well.

- Everything electrical works, even the heater fan.

- Passenger door panel is warped, and the door pull is broken.

- Driver's seat vinyl is coming apart, the rest is serviceable, though needs cleaning. Dog hair in the back.

- Steering is a bit loose (though I'm no 02 expert) and the suspension feels a bit loose but has no clunks.

- Brakes weren't too amazing, but when you give them a good push they do the job.

- Tires had some minor cracking and flat spots that make the ride a little bumpy. Might be able to drive the flat spots out if you're lucky.

- Bumper chrome has some rusting.

- Paint on roof and hood is a bit thin, clear on the trunk is flaking.

- Car has been bumped in the front, but the repair looks decent.

- Seat belts are in need of detangling or replacement.

Anyway, overall it's a pretty decent original driver project, as the seller says, and would be fun to wrench on on the weekends. I'd be all over it if I didn't have a 6-week old and the corresponding lack of time for projects.

Hopefully I'm not committing some major faux pas on this forum by posting this, just want to share my experience to get the car closer to an actual new owner.
