Just got this little guy Wednesday night, it's a Sugar Glider.

Anyone on here have one? Not looking for negative opinions on why they suck, I did my homework and got one.

Cool little animals. Very intelligent.

Like a miniature Honey Badger, those talons look scary, total badass.

Joking aside, the cute little guy looks like he's related to the Lemur.

Pictures are deceiving on the size until the one with your hand.

Just curious:

Life expectancy?

Does it have scent glands?

How far can it glide?

Special dietary food required?

They can live 10-15 years in captivity, not so much in the wild; ~5 years.

The males have a scent gland on their forehead, but as long as you feed them a balanced diet they don't have a bad (ferret) smell. Kind of a puppy smell.

Wikipedia tells me they can fly 100-150 yards (!) but I can't back this up...house is kinda small.

There's many different myths and opinion on diet, but they are omnivores so they eat anything. I have special dry glider food for 50% then 25% veggies 25% fruit.

Then for snacks I'll give him some hard-boiled eggs, or mealworms, etc...

Pretty nifty little guy.

Tom, they care cool little animals. They are also nocturnal, which means you should locate them away from where you sleep. ;) Are you going to get another one? An ex-girlfriend of mine owned sugar gliders and she always told me that they do better in pairs or groups since they are so social. After one of hers died, she drive for hours through a blizzard to get another one.

I think another one will come eventually, they do better in pairs. It is possible to have just one though, just a bit more time involved. They actually accept their owners/other pets as part of their colony because they are so social.

I did sound-proof the cage, and he is in a different bedroom. It's not very loud at night though because they are so small. I also didn't put any bells or other annoying things in there haha
