Snorkel Nose tii

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine picked up an early 72 tii that has a snorkel nose. The car appears to be very original and was purchased from the 2nd owner (a72 year old man who owned it since 1984).

Did the early 2002tii have snorkel noses? It just doesn't look like the front clip was replaced.

Thanks!

No tii had a snorkel. Nose has been replaced; or the car might have had a tii transplant? Check for matching #s and what not.

This topic has been around for a while. My car's nose was replaced a long time ago after a hard hit but does not have a snorkle tube.

I inspected a Tundra 72tii # 2760240 which did not have a snorkle tube.

Another Tundra 72tii # 2760543 I inspected did have a tube but the nose looked like a replacement.

Please share the VIN of the 72tii in question.

FWIW- the Mobile Tradition Inka tii started out as a Square-tail (European) body. BMW had a hard time finding a suitable shell for the project.

I'm not sure. I just loved seeing all the articles on it.

"You can convert a square tail to roundie by changing the middle rear panel to an early one."

You're right, Al, but you're also going to need a about a 3" wide patch panel to fill in the hole in the rear fender where the square lite tail lite wraps around. Check out the picture above of Helmut with the torch.

It was probably done by a reputable shop; how do the welds look? If the owner so wishes, the snorkel can be chopped off and deleted with a piece of sheetmetal, though it isn't hurting anything.

The welds look perfect. If not for the snorkel I would not have questioned if it had been in an accident. Body work was done well.

Small world Jim. I inspected this tundra as well about a year or so ago. I would be interested in what you thought of the car. You can email me from the link if its easier and will not clutter up this thread.

My 2002 was manufactured on September 15th, 1971 and delivered on October 22nd, 1971 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Granada, paint code 023. It was sold on New Years Eve December 31st 1971.

Maybe someone who knows the history can say, but it doesn't seem that quality control or safety was a major issue.

Isn't it possible that they would run out of tii noses and just grabbed whatever was available?
