The most important 2002 owner (to me) has died

Recommended Posts

Jim, so sorry to hear of such a loss. We lost our father last year and it has been really hard for the whole family also.

For the longest time the only comfort I found was when I spoke to another who had also lost a dad or a mom. Please feel free to send me an email if you want to speak. We are here for you.

All the best

D.Tepe

My condolences and thoughts are with you. Though my father died a number of years ago, I still remember wrenching with him on my first car with him as well as learning to master a " three on the tree" Opel Rambler.

My sincere condolences to you in your loss Jim. I hope your Father has all the smooth twisty roads he can handle and any car he can choose to drive them.

I wouldn't be anywhere without my Father's, Grandfather's and though I didn't know him, my Great Grandfather's love of cars. As many of you know, I was brought home from the hospital in the Tii my parent's bought new. They joined the BMWCCA 2 years later and became very active throughout the '80s. It makes me very sad to think that I may loose them one day.

My Paternal Grandfather was a Plymouth dealer mechanic and later a repair shop owner and race car builder/owner. My Great Grandfather built cars on the assembly line at Hudson. My Maternal Grandfather, even with having to drive with hand drive equipment had a love of driving that he shared with my Mother while on many, many cross country road trips. He used the car to explore as he did backpacking before he was stricken with Polio in his mid 20's.

Thanks to all of you once again. The memorial service was held on Saturday, April 21st. I gave one of the three eulogies. The service ended with a US Army Honor Guard ceremony, complete with the playing of taps and the presentation of a US flag to the widow. Very emotional. So many people were there and the kindness of those attending was greatly appreciated. (My dad served in Korea - US Army Corps of Engineers; earning a Bronze Star in the process.)

BTW: Mike McCarthy (owner and top wrench at Foreign Car Service) drove to the service in his pristine '74 Malaga '02. Nice touch, Mike! Karl Hendrickson ('73 Malaga tii) was also in attendance on Saturday.

Sounds like it was a wonderful service Jim. My wife's father also was a veteran (WW II) and the Honor Guard was at the cemetery for his funeral. Not very many dry eyes when taps was played.

Glad you made it through everything, especially the eulogy. I know how tough that can be. But, seeing the '02 there had to make you smile! :-)
