2002 heater fan dead

on '72 Baur, but I guess that makes not much difference. Fuses are alright, switch also seems to work fine. In case I want to pull whole unit out, do I need to remove the upper dash?

All advices are very welcome.

If you haven't used the fan in awhile. Try turning it by hand. Sometimes they stick after long periods of not being used. It takes a second to try and might save you lots of time.
