Done after 3-1/2 years of work

It took me long enough, but once the new fuel tank sending unit shows up, the Mini is finally roadworthy.

I made a list today, and here's what I've been doing:

What started 3-1/2 years ago as a simple carpet change out turned into so much more. Here's what I did in almost 4 years:

Replaced vinyl dash liner with grey leather

Re-built windshield wiper motor

Replaced headlight switch with correct switch

Replaced oil filter to "spin on" oil filter

Replace hard oil line from filter to pump with braided stainless line

Welded in new driver's side floor

Replaced rear turn signal lenses

Replaced rear lights with LED lights

Replaced Brake Master cylinder

Replaced Brake Booster

Replaced Clutch master cylinder

Replaced Clutch slave cylinder

Replaced Clutch actuator rod

Pulled and flushed radiator

Replaced radiator hoses

Replaced thermostat studs with ARP stainless studs

Replaced thermostat

Replaced heater valve

Replaced heater hoses

Changed water pump and belt

Changed fan

Changed distributor to electronic ignition distributor

Changed coil to "Flame thrower" coil

Changed alternator to 100 amp alternator

Changed ammeter to Voltmeter (smiths - it was as close as I could find)

Rebuilt speedometer. Had speedo refaced with MPH below KM/H scale

Replaced all dash lights with LED lights

Changed all flexible brake lines to stainless

Changed rear drums to "superfins"

Re-built front calipers. Installed slotted "S" rotors

Replace front wheel bearings.

Replaced all 4 shocks

Pulled fuel tank. Had it cleaned and internally coated.

Rebuilt HS2 carbs

Replaced throttle cable

Changed Entire exhaust system to RC40 exhaust with LCB manifold.

Changed all hard brake lines, except for the long one that goes to the back of the car.

Replaced headlights with new headlights

Replaced front seats with Corbeau Classic II seats

Installed rear seatbelts (lap belts)

Changed oil to Redline 15/50

Installed replica Inno Transmission Guard (aka Fireplace log holder)

Installed new headliner

Installed Newton Commercial Carpet kit

Re-covered parcel shelf

Installed 3rd brake light

Installed new front bumper

Installed Wipac fog lights

Painted valve cover

Replaced underhood lining

Replaced hood latch cable

Replaced hood latch

Replaced trunk seal

I've done more work on this car than on either of the other two....

Will I drive it! I think I'm going to drive it to work every day for awhile. And it's starting to get really hot here. But, after having it sit for so long, I'm dying to drive it.

Cool car pics. I love the Triumphs and the Sunbeam Tiger is sexy. The shop down the street from me was working on a Spitfire and this is the conversation I had with the mechanic:

"Cool car".

"Yep - but I wouldn't drive it down here. Get hit by a big truck or SUV, and you are dead".

And he's right. And the Mini is worse. But I'm STILL going to drive it....

I'll will my 2002 and all the parts to you Jim.

Ray -

No. The last cool seats you had were used as cat beds, until some dope bought them and had them shipped in the most convoluted way possible.

Hah!

I read a review of someone that did a Honda "B" engine swap into a mini. It was so powerful that it was almost undrivable.

I just need to drive it for a bit to see what her road manners are like. In 3-1/2 years, I've driven the car 4 times. Pathetic.

I like the seats. They are very comfortable - almost as comfortable as the Scheels I got from Ray. They are fixed back, but because of the way they mount in the mini, they sit very reclined. I ordered these with the inflatable lumbar support, but for some reason the driver's side doesn't hold air anymore. We'll see if that becomes a problem. They kick butt over the stock seats in this car - that's for sure.

I don't know if I would like them in my 2002 - but I'm 6'0 tall, and so I like a higher back seat.

Are those wheels "Rostyle" (something like that)? They look like MG wheels.

Where did you find tires for it? Most of the Mini's at the local show had Avon tires.

They are the stock "Rostyle " wheels. you get an "A" Jim.

I get made fun of by a lot of local car guys. It's a 10" wheel - it's an 8" rotor on the front!

Tires for 10" wheels are hard to come by. The ones on the car are KUHMO. When I get new ones, I'll probably go with Yokohama's

Even though it was imported to the US in very limited numbers (mostly in the 60's), there is a huge mini following in the States. But - they aren't as cool as the 2002 crowd.
